I wanted to name you Rima Jacinta because for some reason, I thought you were a girl. Then, we found out you were a boy and I did not know what to name you. One evening, your tatay came home, with all these heavy hardbound books that he bought from Book Sale. He said he thought I might find them useful for my fiction and poetry classes. He then said, “While riding the bus, I thought of a name.” I was excited to hear it, “What is it?” I asked. “Elessar,” he replied with a mixture of confidence and bashfulness.
The sound of the name was as wonderful as the author’s fictional world. It was Tolkien’s Aragorn. He was crowned King Elessar Telcontar of Gondor but he was also known as Strider. Maybe I can nickname you my little Strider.
